Rs. 500 crore sought for weavers' welfare

KURNOOL: Ch. Sitaramulu, honorary president of Andhra Pradesh Weavers Association on Sunday urged the government to allocate Rs 500 crore for weavers' welfare in the next budget.
Mr. Sitaramulu who was on his way to Dharmavaram in Anantapur district to attend the regional workshop told The Hindu that the government was trying to reintroduce funds earmarked in the last year's budget. Rs. 312 crore was promised towards loan waiver but it was not released. The amount should have been deposited with the APCO and utilised though a nodal agency. But it was never done. He urged the government to immediately release the money and make fresh allocation in the next budget.
